Is it a sin to hang posters of celebrities on my wall?
I’ve wanted to hang posters and actually cover my walls with pics/quotes from this certain celeb. Is that a sin? I know the bible says not to idolize/worship anything but God. I really don’t want to go against God’s word, ya know? I am torn over the decision to hang posters or not. Will God consider it as me idolizing or worshiping this celebrity? I don’t consider my adoration for him to be idolatry. I hope I get the answer I’m looking for. =/
Yes, I do love God. I give my life to Him. And I do worship him alone. I’ve come across a few people telling me they worship a certain celebrity and I’ve told them that’s wrong. So you see, I don’t worship this person. It’s just admiration. So I’m safe right? =)
Thanks Jill. I remember my mom saying something a long time ago about how Christian musicians shouldn’t give autographs etc. because…ah I forgot the rest but she was saying it’s not right for people to idolize and drool over celebrities the way they do. It’s not like that with me though…or at least I don’t see it that way.
@Juan
I’ll make sure I have tons of bible verses etc. up there too. ^_^
@Alice
Thank you for your lovely answer. I thought I might get that response. The, "It’s between you and God" thing. I will pray about it. The pics and quotes do not take away from my relationship with God. Actually, they encourage it. They encourage faith and healing the world. Making a change for a brighter tomorrow. I didn’t mention the celeb’s name mainly because I know how rude people can be. But there’s a clue for you. A beautiful child of God. And yes, of course God will ALWAYS be #1 in my life.
Thanks so much and God bless. <3

it isn’t an idol until that possession steals away what belongs to God. consider where your thoughts are centered, consider what your words are saying, consider your actions regarding posters of said celebs… why not ask yourself why you admire them so? are they diverting your affections from God? these are all personal questions that can unfold answers for things like this. if its innocent appreciation then don’t feel troubled over it. we all adorn our personal space, things wouldn’t be as fine if we did not. i believe God even causes secular things to mount inspiration. if you find yourself obsessed with this idea or if it actually distracts you then i would be a bit more concerned. determine wether or not something truly promotes you, then you’ll know what and what not to avoid.
worshiping false idols is a sin!!!
Only if you are damaging the wallpaper
the answer is found in the definition of idolizing/idolatry. if you dont think its idolatry, then why worry? if its possible that its idolatry, why are you still wanting to do it?
Everything is a sin now-a-days. Lmfao.
do you love God? do you worship Him alone?
if so, then feel free to hang all the posters you want.
if this question is actually asked seriously your brainwashing at the hands of your religious leaders has convinced you that a big invisible man is concerned with house decorations more than the millions that starve on this earth year after year mostly children…..good luck
You’d better have a poster of God up there too, you know how jealous God is, by God’s own admission
it’s okay to admire God’s creation.
just not lust or idolize.
Things like this are a personal thing one person might consider it a sin but someone else may not its something that is purely between you and god. Here’s a question for you do these pictures and quotes take away from your relationship with god? If not than have at it put as many pictures up as you want but if they do than yes it would be a sin. Most importantly pray about it God will let you know whether its right or wrong for you. Just make sure you are paying attention to him and put him first and you should be fine.
Yes! OMG you’ll go to HELL for sticking up posters on your wall! Dont you know that?????
my sister says its bad to hang up pictures of people because it’s kinda like idolizing them. shes removed all her pictures in frames around the house and my brother put down all the pictures of people he likes. i’m not sure but just to be safe i wouldn’t if i were you. don’t listen to people who are being rude. this is actually a good question because i am told this often.
Oh, for f*cks sake! Just hang up the damn posters, you’ll be fine, I promise.

CELEBRITIES?? What do they stand for? -WORLDLINESS!
What on earth would a ‘born again ‘ Christian have in common with HOLLYWOOD????
Oh my goodness
Hey, look at it this way. My girlfriend loves me. I have no doubt about that. She has my pictures on her frig, it’s where a lot of her family pictures go. Then she has her numerous pictures of Benicio del Toro around her house. She’s got the hots for the guy. So what. Go see the movie "Nine". I have the hots for Penelope Cruz now and had the hots for Sophia Loren when I was younger. After seeing her in that movie, I still have the hots for her. But I love my girlfriend, just as she loves me. And last year my girlfriend helped me pick out the pinup calendars for my walls. There is no "idolatry" here.

Likewise, I don’t see a damn thing wrong with your posters. As long as you ae putting your god first, what’s the problem?
And, since I think that’s the answer you wanted to hear and I gave concrete examples to back it up, I will accept Best Answer, I could use one.
Blessings on your Journey!
It is not a sin to have someones picture or an art object depicting a person in the house, or in your room.
Unless you as you indicate make him an object of worship, it isn’t a sin.
Of course not .LOL
Only if you masturbate while looking at the posters.
any christian worth his salt will teach you to refrain from those acts …
why …
what is idol worship ?
it means adoring something or someone other than God.
idol worship = does not have to be a person,
eg. a game or anything that replaces God as no. 1 in our lives.
when our focus is on that thing instead of God = idol worship.
also, things like pics, statues, objects, etc … tend to attract demons.
do you want demonic energy in your home ?
you know how its like, they enter … then GROW on you.
your adoration for this celebrity is a form of idolatry. idolize and worship is not the same thing, however. i say: be weary of looking for the answers you are "looking" for-you can always get the answer you want. look around you and see how many people bend the truth to YOU by getting the answers they want to have. if you look for answers, look to have your answer questioned by looking for the true answer. also: learn to ask god what he will consider something, ask god if you want god’s answer, not other people. and: remember other people are no better than you, no matter how much you adore them. celebrities are only celebrities-they are real people just like us, and they have private lives that are often very different then what their image is. to admire a person for what they want to be about and project may be good, but that still does not put that person as being better or more worthwhile than you.
HAHAHAHAHA? what?
Maybe you should put yourself in a straight-jacket and lock yourself in a padded room if you are this paranoid about sinning.
You’d think with the reasoning that this is a sin that God looks more like the pictures of Satan!
WTF!!!
The issue is that the sin of idolatry is not so much in our actions (hanging posters or so), but rather in our hearts; the actions just express what we feel deep inside. Ask yourself, why you want to hang those posters? Are those "celebrities" who don’t know God, who often live in sin, so important for you that you want to hang their "icons" and to be reminded of their existence every moment? Will it bring glory to the Lord?
Peace Lizzie,
Think of it this way, do you have photos of your family whom you love around? If so, then how is that different from having pictures of celebrities whom you love around?
Unless you are putting these people above God and/or worshipping them as though they were God then you have done nothing wrong.
It’s the same with icons. People do not worship icons as though they were God. Icons are simply images of saints who have fought the good fight, past the test of this life and made it to Paradise. People treat them in a similar way to photos of family. It is the same again with posters.
I can’t believe this question and the answers! You are worried about posters?
I believe you people are carrying this to far. So what about family photos, pet photos, Jesus pictures, collection of Hummal figures, angel figures, on and on?
Would you get rid of these also? There is no reason to.
I believe in God,
I have posters of Michael Jackson (r.i.p), I do not idolize him as I would a God, I just love him for the amazing person he was.
