I would really like to hear from people in the industry or who have experience in this kind of job, like who would I contact? Do many production companies have designers/art directors in house or use outside advertising firms? How do you get into this industry? Thanks!

Most of the time, the graphics staff that works on the special effects and title screens either develops the print promotions themselves, or, budget willing, collaborate with an outside design firm.

Off the top of my head, I know of one person who has done numerous movie posters over his career…Tom Arthur Opasinski. He did Hell Boy, The Italian Job, Resident Evil…etc.

His website is full of random stuff, but if you want to see some of the poster he’s made for the film industry, click on the center menu and go to "2002-2008 portfolio 1".

I would think he would be a good place to start if you want to find out more information. I’m sure you aren’t the first person to bark up this tree.

Good luck.
