How can we (American) elevate Britney Spears to a Celebrity Level?

How to we let superficial artists such as Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake become Celebrity Icons….Shouldn’t we have higher standards of our artists to include elements such as talent instead of poster appearance. Your thoughts would be appreciated…

we should have higher standards, what has happened to the high-class days of Hollywood? Natalie Wood, Judy Garland, Marilyn, Betty Grable, Katherine Hepburn…alot of them had problems, but they all carried themselves in a classy manor in public. Britney is done..stick a fork in her career. the only thing that could save that girl is to go get a decent (reese witherspoon style) look and stop trying to be 15 with her disgusting chest hanging out all over the place. just what i want to see in a grocery (on a mag cover) when i go buy my FOOD. it seems the only criteria for fame now days is the artist has to be "hot". got some news kids: get glasses…the only way these people will ever be hot, is if they go live in Texas.
Americans love mediocrity. It’s not how good the product is; it’s how well it’s marketed.
Rule number 1. You must be able to sing at least as good as Freddie Mercury, or Robert Plant.
To be honest. Justin has surprised me a lot musically. Now, Britney she is a great performer of stage, but I wouldn’t consider her an artist.
Over time, standards have disintegrated.Sleaze has taken the place of standards. It’s how you SHOCK that counts now, whether it be Justin’s T-grab or Britney flashing the press.
The key is to go forward-into the past. If you still have standards and demand quality, then you must seek it in music and artists of the past-because on the whole the music scene’s warping out like a record in the summer sun.
