I’ve seen loads of non-UK people on Yahoo answers talking about buying cats and dogs from the Pet shop? I’ve never seen a UK store Selling them, only adoption posters for Shelters?
Is it just the uk that doesn’t sell them in pet stores?
What got me thinking about this was a question about kata and kumite that was posted by Shihan. The question is here if you want to see it.

From what I gathered, kata is ‘realistic training’ and kumite is sparring. I noticed that we do not in fact do any of this when training. It seems that most muay thai gyms focus on training for ring fighting rather than self defence. Here are a few of my own pointers.
We have a separate class for what we call ‘kata’. This is just the syllabus, and is only needed for grading, the class is optional. When we practice the kata it is all done with a partner, SLOWLY and without any force. I think the main aim of this is just so you can remember the name and movement of the kata so that you can demonstrate it in grading, rather than applying it in a real attack. Here are examples of what I mean by kata and what we practice in the separate class.

A lot if this I can recognise, and is used in the ring, however the rest we don’t use either because its too slow, impractical or illegal (like the circled flying headbutt lol).
Another point is the lack of lethality compared to other martial arts (even though muay thai is brutal). I see questions on here about ’secrets’ and going back the the question by Shihan there are certain techniques that are banned from normal sparring (I may be overestimating other martial arts here, still better to overestimate than under, I’d rather not offend anyone =D). The most lethal technique I can think of in muay thai is an elbow or a knee to the face. This would most likely result in a KO (and a sore face), but I doubt that it would actually kill someone. Do you see what I mean? although Muay thai is brutal, ring fighting techniques are not supposed to kill your opponent. I think this is quite limiting, as I could spend a lifetime learning muay thai and only studying ring techniques without knowing that there are techniques for outside the ring.
In my opinion Muay thai is a sport, if I went to a Muay thai gym for self defence, they would still teach me how to fight in the ring, rather than on the streets. I think Muay thai can only be called a martial art because it came from Muay boran, which was a martial art designed to kill. Muay thai is like a newer, more modern version of muay boran with rules. Its just like boxing, boxing is considered a sport, and you are taught to fight in the ring. Whats the difference between Muay thai and boxing? is it because Muay thai came from a martial art?
Phew, a LOT of thought went into this question, took me 45 mins to write. But in the end I think I worked it out for myself. I dont even know why I’m posting this question now, it seems so obvious now I think about it. Still can someone confirm or correct my thoughts? Thanks for reading.

I have noticed a large number of posters from the UK lately. I’m curious about what percentage of Yahoo Answers participants are from the US, the UK, or elsewhere.

It’s really hard – I’ve gone to many websites and can’t find any, and searching on google, bing, yahoo and ask is really hard because of the broad name. I’ve tried using the "advanced" searches to no avail. Most of what I see is just "extreme sports" posters. Help! I love this band and I want a poster.
If they post a question, do the same rules apply as to choosing best answer? If a ridiculous answer is chosen by the majority of posters will that answer be the answer or will it be rejected. Or is a politically correct answer forced to be the best answer. Can posters ‘hijack’ the answer? Does yahoo staff pay closer attention to celebrity questions and answers than others as they may be more popular and also may be used as a form of promotion by Yahoo Answers?
Finally does anyone have a ridiculous answer chosen as best answer to a celebrity thread?
Leaving a question open for weeks is not an option for regular posters.
Where can I find a high quality (to scale) image archive of movie posters? I can find decent quality images using yahoo or google image search, but I can’t seem to find an archive that deals specifically with movie posters.
It would seem to me that there must be some form of the original images in file if not a high quality oversize scan of the posters in some database. Any clue? Thank You
