I moved into my boyfriends house about a year ago and am sick of his lousy decorating. I haven’t wanted to spend time/money changing anything because we keep talking about moving, but I can’t take it anymore. His idea of decorating is sports posters in the living room. I have never had my own house to decorate and don’t know where to start! Any good websites with pictures to inspire me? I need websites showing REAL ideas, not picture perfect pottery barn homes! I’m looking for ideas for window treatments (because we have big wrough iron radiators under the windows, it’s an old house from the 1800’s) and wall decor, paint colors, etc.

Thanks!

Believe it or not, according to an article on Slate.com the cleanliness of your surroundings may indicate your political preference. This is true of your personality as well. The researchers found that "Liberals are more likely to be open to experiences. Conservatives would score higher on measures of conscientiousness. Liberals would be more motivated by curiosity, creativity, and diversity of experiences. Conservatives would value following the rules, self-control, and order".

The cleanliness of room applies in that "Conservatives’ bedrooms tended to have more calendars and postage stamps. They had more flags and sports posters. Conservatives’ bedrooms were neater and better lit—they had more laundry baskets, ironing boards, cleaning supplies, and sewing thread.

Liberals’ bedrooms had a greater variety of books (especially books about travel, feminism, and music). They had more CDs and a greater variety of music (folk, world, classical). Liberal bedrooms had more art supplies, cultural memorabilia, and maps of other countries.

These same traits carried over to the work life. Conservatives’ offices "tended to be more conventional, less stylish, and less comfortable compared with liberal offices." Liberals’ offices were more colorful and contained more CDs and "a greater variety of books."

What do you think? Does this apply to you?

Carol: which political preference are you?

Oh if you answer this and indicate your surroundings, please also include your political preference
it’s not my theory, it’s the result of a study
To give you my perspective: My house can get very messy. This is mainly due to the fact that I work and go to school and am often very busy. Plus my roommate is a bit of a slob, he has his days. Anyway we’re both Democrats, very liberal.

GO OBAMA!

Oh and naughty carol: that’s a slur, please don’t think you’re being cute, it’s offensive

So Im in the process of opening a trading card and collectibles shop in Oakland. I’d be selling mostly sports and trading cards, such as baseball cards, football cards, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, Pokemon cards, Magic the Gathering cards, and accessories like binders, card sleeves, deck boxes, etc.
I would also sell collectibles, such as autographed sports posters, jerseys, sports memorabilia, and I would hold card game tournaments on the weekends.
I had a few questions:

1) Is Oakland Pennsylvania a good area for this type of business? I have had a few people tell me that the demographic of this area is wrong for this kind of store, but it seems just the opposite. Oakland has several universities including CMU, Pitt, and Carlow, and there’s tons of pedestrian traffic. It seems like the demographic in Oakland would be the best possible, since university students and young adults are exactly the type of people who would visit a shop like this. Oakland is also a very safe and active area.

2) I know that Phantom of the Attic has a location in Oakland, but I also know that they sell mainly comic books and tabletop games such as Dungeons and Dragons. I know they DO sell cards, but its a small part of their sales. Would I be ensuring my own demise by opening in Oakland? Would I have to try and compete with Phantom of the Attic, and if yes, would I have any chance at all?

3) Do you think 825 square feet is enough? The building Im looking to rent is approximately sixteen feet six inches wide by fifty feet long, which comes to 825 square feet. I know that in order to host Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments, Konami requires that stores be able to seat at least 16 players, but I think I’d get a lot more than that once the store got going.

4) How much do stores in your area sell booster packs for? I remember that a card store I used to go to a few years ago sold Yu-Gi-Oh booster packs (nine cards each) for five dollars. However, I people have told me that is too much. How much does a single Yu-Gi-Oh booster pack cost where you live?
Im just trying to get an idea of the price range in different areas.

Lastly, any tips or general advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

My husband gets up early to watch ESPN, has his computer set to follow sports on his homepage. Wears team jerseys when he is off (even has one for bedtime). He will get up at 2am to check the west-coast scores. And the walls of the garage are decorated with sports posters and trivia. I am to the point that I hate sports because it robs me of the attention/affection I think I should be getting. I have cooked great feasts for him on a regular basis. I have fixed dinner and lounged around the house in the buff for hours on end to catch his attention (even sexually "attacked" him on numerous occasions). I don’t want a divorce…I want my husband to come home. Any ideas here to share? I am not looking for a b/f!!!!

I am a 12 year old girl, but I am kind of a tomboy. My room is kind of small, it’s 10′x11′ and the closet isn’t very big. The walls are a dark greenish (kind of an army green, but a little darker) brown color. It’s okay, but I don’t really like it. I have lots of sports posters that I haven’t put up. I have a twin bed with a comforter that has lots of shades of green and a few brown squares on it. I have denim curtains. I also have a bookshelf and a dresser in there.
I really want to redecorate or redo my room. My parents won’t let me spend a whole lot of money though. I’m not sure if I can paint it either because my dad is allergic to latex paint and it takes a few days. We also have a spare bedroom in our basement that is 10′ 5"x10 with a much bigger closet that I could probably put my bookshelf in. How could I convince my parents to let me have that bedroom? Here are a few of my favorite things:
Sport: football
Sports teams: Broncos and Bears
Color (for my bedroom): navy blue and lime/light green
Color: purple and orange
Subject: language arts and math
Singer: Ke$ha
Band: The Black Eyed Peas
Music: pop, hip hop, and rock

Also, would silver and orange match the color on my walls. And, how can I reduce all the clutter that I have on the floor and in my closet?

It is the World Series vs. New York Yankees. 1955 Game 1 Pitchers: Newcombe vs. Ford Sept. 28, 1955-1:30 pm I see they sell reprints of this poster for 14 bucks on the internet, how do I find out if this is the real deal? It is slightly yellowed and made of a thick paperboard material. looks very old and has sme slight corner wear. I bought it in an antique store in nowhere New Mexico. They had it tucked away behind many old pictures and sports posters. Help if you can.
