No one was home when Carter arrived at his house. Except his brother Chris who was sitting on the couch with a tall, redheaded girl he had seen a couple of times at school. Carter greeted them before heading upstairs. His room wasn’t exactly a mess, but he needed to clean up a little bit. Football posters, sports magazines, and papers strewn all over the floor. His room was the color of beige and forest green. He tried to make his room as neat as possible, but it inevitably got messy.
He fell into his red chair and started flipping the channel. Suddenly he saw Palma’s school picture appear on the television screen. He flipped the channels back to the news station.
"Paramount High School teen, Palma Voorhees, died in a hit and run accident Saturday at four o’clock. Investigation says the man, Todd Gray, tried to run after hitting the fifteen year old girl. Charges have not been filed yet." A dirty-blonde woman with obvious botox said on the television screen.
Grumbling, he changed the channel to ESPN. Paramount High had been getting a lot of coverage ever since Palma’s death. The reports had been hassling the students daily trying to get information out of them. Luckily, the reporters hadn’t reached Carter and Palma’s other friends. With the help of the teachers, they’ve been out of the spotlight.
"Carter!" Chris’s voice yelled from the living room. "Turn to channel six!"
"Chris I already saw the news on Palma!" Carter shouted. "I don’t want to see it!"
"No, just turn to channel six!" Chris begged. "Andy’s on TV!"
Sighing, Carter flipped to the designated channel. No sooner than he had turn to that channel, Andy was on the screen having microphones shoved in his face.
"Andy, how does it feel to have your girlfriend killed?" a woman wearing a pink suit asked him, following him like a hawk.
"Who told you I was Palma’s boyfriend!" screamed Andy, shoving past several photographers. "Why don’t you all just mind your damn business!"
Behind him, Courtney Hofstadter and Savannah were shielding their faces from the photographers as they tried to make it to their buses. Clamoring and pandemonium came as several students tried to bogart their way into the camera.
"Mr. Simms, we just want to know how you feel." the woman pestered, continuing to trail behind Andy.
"This is how I feel!" hollered Andy, sticking up his middle finger. "There! You happy! Just leave me the (bleep!!!) alone!"
Carter immediately changed the channel. Palma was an important person. No one should have to deal with those insensitive news people who just wanted to get paid. His heart immediately went out to Andy. That was his girlfriend and people constantly kept bothering him about it. Andy hadn’t really reacted to Palma’s death, but he knew he was hurting inside. Carter knew better than to ask him how he was feeling.
