Does there seem to be an extreme anti-Americanism that exists in the UK?
Posted In: Posters UK by admin
Of course not all British subjects hate us, but I’ve noticed it a lot lately when I watch soccer videos on YouTube. There are reams of vicious arguments between the British posters and non-British posters, usually started by the English. I asked a question about soccer hooligans, and was answered with: "IT’S FOOTBALL, NOT SOCCER, YOU YANKY TW**! WTH? There seems to be a widespread animosity toward the French and Americans especially. Explain?

It probably is not ubiquitous. Having lived for 2 years in the UK sometimes I was treated as a stranger, which was not .pleasant.I think in terms of the antipathy there are a number of factors involved. Historically there is probably some hostility because of the US loss in the Revolutionary War. Contemporariliy there antipathyresentment because Tony Blair was Bush’s friend and got the UK to sendAfghanistan Afganistan and Iraq. The British were angry that no Party wanted to take a stand against the War with the exception of the small Parties Like the Liberals, as well as Left Partie like RESPECT. In terms of hooliganism in sports many of the teams are dominated by the Nationalist/Fascist British National Party, which picked up and elected a number of Legislators in the past election. Lastly there is a great deal of Xenophobia similar to the US.Hopefully the UK can differentiate between individual Americans, and the imperialist acts of the Bush Administration. The fact that you were subjected to such mistreatment angers me, and as Christians I hope we learn to love each other in the name of peace and understanding
not really America is Britain’s child
It’s called jealousy
The ‘ugly american’ is not a new phenomenon.
I think the facelessness of the internet has ‘allowed’ many more people to do-say some crazy stuff they may not otherwise do face-to-face.
Re your "question about soccer hooligans"… it seems you attracted one, huh?
And the French?
They ‘tested’ their atom bombs in the South Pacific AND blew up the Rainbow Warrior.
They are sure they should rule the world…
