For sports memorabilia, it’s probably real if it is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) by a recognized and respected authenticator.

The other items? You may be taking your chances.

not always

I’ve heard that the majority of such autographs are fake. Only buy from reputable dealers…

Ive wondered the same thing, even though most items carry a certificate of authenticity with them, i really dont think its worth the gamble. I think its hard to get real proof that they are real

I’m sure it’s 50-50. Some people are lulled by a "certificate of authenticity." Think about it, though. If someone’s brazen enough to forge a celebrity autograph, why wouldn’t they be brazen enough to whip up a bogus certificate attesting to it?

Something to say?
